I’m genuinely proud to share that a video I had the privilege of contributing to has now been embedded into Qantas’s global Ground Operations training module. This training is used by ground handling teams around the world, the people responsible for loading and unloading aircraft, including our wheelchairs.
For me, this is far more than simply appearing in a training video. It represents a shift in mindset, a recognition that mobility equipment is not just cargo, but an extension of the person who relies on it every single day.
Having lived the experience of travelling as a wheelchair user, I know how much trust we place in the people behind the scenes. When we hand over our chairs at the aircraft door, we are handing over our independence, our mobility, and often our peace of mind.
That’s why being involved in the input and creation of this video means so much. It’s an opportunity to bring lived experience directly into the training room — to help teams understand not just how to handle wheelchairs, but why it matters.
My hope is simple:
That this training contributes to meaningful, lasting improvement in how wheelchairs are treated across the aviation industry, with care, respect, and the same professionalism afforded to every passenger’s journey.

Progress in accessibility happens step by step, and this is one of those steps I’m incredibly proud to be part of.
Because when our equipment is treated properly, it sends a clear message:
wheelchair users belong in the skies, just like anyone else.
