Over the past week, I’ve noticed an unsettling trend that travellers should be aware of. If you’re heading away soon, take a moment to read this:
A growing luggage tag scam is emerging at airports and hotels, particularly in the U.S. Scammers are stealing personal information and even money by collecting details from discarded luggage tags.
Many of us simply rip off and throw away tags at the airport or hotel without thinking twice, but those small slips can contain valuable data. In the wrong hands, that information can be exploited for fraud.

How I believe we can PROTECT ourselves.
- Keep your tags until you get home.
- Shred or safely dispose of them, rather than tossing them in airport bins.
- Stay alert when travelling, small details can make a big difference in protecting your money and identity.
Final Thoughts
Yes, baggage-tag fraud is a real and growing risk, especially at U.S. airports. But the good news is that it’s easily manageable. A little extra caution can make you a much harder target for scammers.
It really is a strange world we’re travelling in, but with awareness, we can stay ahead.
